PURPOSE:To improve economy by providing an operation mode converter, setting excitation of field winding of a drive motor to a range in which the armature reaction of the motor is small at the time of catch test, and controlling to limit the current of the armature of the motor. CONSTITUTION:A first power converter having a forward converter 2 and a power inverter 3 is connected to a power source 1, the first converter is connected at its output to the armature 4 of a drive motor to supply power thereto. Power is supplied from a power source 10 to a field winding 5 of the motor via a second power converter 9. When a catch is tested, a governor rope 18 is grasped in advance by a catch weight 19 of a governor 17, and a cage 14 is stopped by the catch 20 through a rail 16. Power is supplied to the motor in this state to apply a driving force for moving down the cage 14 thereto, and the braking force of the catch 20 is sufficiently compensated by generating a slip between a winding drum 12 and a main rope 13. |
