PURPOSE:To completely break a current when a superconducting coil, which is continuously driven by a large DC current, by a method wherein the period in which a current is allowed to flow through a DC circuit breaker is limited to the time of quenching generation only. CONSTITUTION:When a normal driving is conducted, a DC circuit breaker 4 is disconnected, a DC large current I0 is continuously applied to the switch 6 having a microscopic fixed resistor 5. When the generation of quenching of a superconducting coil 1 is detected by a quenching detector 7, the DC circuit breaker 4 is turned ON by a control circuit 8. When the circuit breaker 4 is turned ON, most of the DC current I0, which has been flowing through the switch 6, is allowed to flow to the circuit breaker 4. Then, when the current detector 9 detects that the current flowing through the switch 6 is nearing zero, the switch group 6 is turned OFF by the control circuit 8. After the above- mentioned series of movements has been finished, the DC current is broken by the circuit breaker 4 by the command sent from the control circuit 8. |
