A method and apparatus for differentiating between the five basic components of leukocyte cells: basophils (BA), neutrophils (NE), monocytes (MO), and lymphocytes (LY) are discriminated by computing a quantile for each cell. A histogram of the background intensity is formed for each of the primary colors (red, green and blue). These histograms are used to compute normalized values for pixels within the cells. Measurements are made regarding the size and average color of each unknown cell. A quantile is formed for each cell and then employed to discriminate between the various types of leukocytes. |
