The aircraft turbo-jet engine reverse thrust mechanism consists of a series of hinged flaps (7) which, when closed, form part of the outer wall of the by-pass flow duct, each comprising outer (9) and inner (11) panels linked by ribs (12), and with the inner wall equipped with an additional hinged panel (20) at its forward end. The flap and the inner panel (20) pivot about separate points (27,28) when the flap is opened and closed, e.g. by a power cylinder (7a). The power cylinder is pivoted at one end to the flap, while the forward end of the inner panel (20) is connected to the flap by a level with its length and pivot points, together with the flap and panel pivot points (27,28) determined so that in the reverse flow position the inner panel acts as a deflector which divides the by-pass flow into layers, while when closed it forms a part of the by-pass duct's outer wall.
