发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 PURPOSE:To lessen the unequalness of refractive indexes and the waving of a film surface to an inconspicuous level by disposing double refractive films constituting a film phase plate in such a manner that the anisotropic axis of the refractive index of at least one sheet thereof aligns nearly to the direction of the electrodes of a liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION:The direction counterclockwise with the progressing direction of light is determined positive with the horizontal direction as a reference axis and the angles of the polarization axes of a polarizing plate 2 and a polarizing plate 5 are respectively determined as P1, P2. The angle phi0 and twist angle OMEGA0 of the molecular major axis on the incident side of a liquid crystal layer 3 and the anisotropic axes F1.F2... of the double refractive index films constituting the film phase plate 4 are determined. The liquid crystal layer is sandwiched by the electrodes for impressing signal voltage. The electrodes 11 of a front side substrate constitute a stripe shape in a vertical direction and the electrodes 12 of a rear side substrate constitute a stripe shape in a horizontal direction. The picture element electrodes of a matrix shape are formed of both. The double refractive index films are so disposed that the anisotropic axis of either of these films aligns to the electrode direction of either the front or the rear. The uneuqalness of the refractive index and the waving of the film surface are in the same direction as the direction of the electrode patterns and are, therefore, concealed by these patterns and are decreased to the substantially inconspicuous level in this way.
