PURPOSE:To enable navigation even when a vehicle travels deviating the range of map data by reducing a display scale automatically from a preset display scale. CONSTITUTION:While the current position of the vehicle is confirmed, the map data group of an area in a constant range corresponding to the display scale is read out of a storage medium 10 and displayed on a display 17 as the map of the periphery of the current position of the vehicle together with its position. Then, when a case wherein the current position of the vehicle is outside areas whose map data group is stored on the storage medium is detected, the display scale is reduced automatically from the preset display scale. Namely, even when the vehicle travels deviating from the range of the map data, the display scale is reduced to display the map on the display 17. Consequently, the vehicle position is not displayed, the current position of the vehicle can be recognized according to the map displayed on the display. |
