PURPOSE:To control selectively the transmission of a light in optional positions on a two-dimensional space, by making arrangement directions of electrodes of respective electrooptic plates orthogonal to one another and piling up electrooptic plates successively so that planes of polarization are orthogonal to both faces of electrooptic plates of one another. CONSTITUTION:An electrooptic plate M1 has only the part of a region A driven selectively to cause the double refraction due to the electrooptic effect, and an electrooptic plate M2 has only the part of a region B driven selectively. When a nonpolarized light is inputted from the side of a polarizing plate P1, the linearly polarized light having a certain plane of polarization is transmitted from the polarizing plate P1 and is inputted to the electrooptic plate M1, and only a light passing through the region A is subjected to double refraction. This light passes through a polarizing plate P2 to generate components to be inputted to the electrooptic plate M2, and only a light passing through the region B is subjected to double refraction to generate components to be transmitted to a polarizing plate P3. Thus, a linearly polarized light is transmitted from only the part of a region C on a two-dimensional space, where the ergion A of the electrooptic plate M1 and the region B of the electrooptic plate M2 are superposed in the advance direction of the light, on the polarizing plate P3. |
