PURPOSE: To easily hold an article to be carried, or lower it on a floor by providing a means to move a pair of support elements relative to the article to be carried in a holding or separating direction, and moving carrier wheels in a vertical direction to vertically move the support elements. CONSTITUTION: Carrier wheels 7 are mounted on support elements 2, 3 by a lever arm 14, and vertically turned by a regulation screw 15. The support elements 2, 3 are movably mounted on a rod 16 fitted to a center member 4, and moved by a regulation screw 17 in an approaching or separating direction. When the carriage is in the carrying condition, the carrier wheels 7 are on a floor 11, and an article (reel) 6 to be carried is held on a lifting plate 10. When the carrier wheels 7 are elevated by the above-described means, the reel 6 is brought into contact with the floor 11, and the support elements 2, 3 are continuously lowered to release the reel 6. Then, the support elements 2, 3 are moved in the separating direction by the means, and detached from the reel 6. The operation to hold the reel 6 is opposite to that described above.
