PURPOSE: To seal a positive electrode in a negative electrode frame by providing a labyrinth seal which is combined by direct molding so as to seal an approach port between the consumable end and exposed end of positive electrode material. CONSTITUTION: Negative electrodes 52 are fixed to the walls 42, 44, 46, 48 of frames. Long and narrow vertically extending frame holes 60 are formed in the side walls 46 of respective vessel frames 40, communicate with an electrolyte chamber 50, positive electrodes 62 are inserted into the electrolyte chamber 50 through holes 60, and enter between air negative electrodes 52, 54. The positive electrodes 62 are equipped with consumable ends 64 and gripping exposed ends 66, and when the consumable ends 64 are inserted into the electrolyte chamber 50, the gripping ends 66 are stuck from the chamber and are exposed. Cross section thicknesses between back to back flat planes of the gripping ends 66 can be thinner than the consumable ends, and seals 68 intervene between the gripping ends 66 and the consumable ends 64. It is desirable that the seals 68 are directly vulcanizing combined with the anode material 62, and this way, conformed sealing property is realized between the positive electrode surfaces and the seals 68. |
