STYLUS-LOCATOR AND DATA INPUT SYSTEM

PURPOSE: To realize a high-resolution input by providing a means, which distinctly demarcates boundaries of individual tablet address cells(TAC), and a means which generates a complete TAC data pair (X-Y coordinates) from each unit of sampled TAC data. CONSTITUTION: A pen 10 includes an illumination source 12 and an optical pickup means 14 which senses digitized X-Y coordinate data which is encoded in the binary notation and is stored on a tablet 1. This system illuminates a prescribed area of the tablet 1 and reads digitized X-Y coordinate data stored there to automatically determine the pen position on the tablet 1. Consequently, a maximum of 2500000 digitized coordinates per 1cm<2> are encoded on the tablet surface to give a high resolution. Thus, this system is adapted to high-quality graphic data input of a hand-written text or the like.
