This invention provides an improved latching device for use in a vehicle seat assembly. The device is simple to operate and inexpensive to manufacture and is adapted to hold seat members pivotally foldable relative to one another in either of a passenger carrying configuration and a cargo carrying configuration of the seat assembly. The latching device comprises a pair of latch pins rigidly mounted on one of the seat members and a pair of locking arms rotatably mounted on the other seat member. The locking arms each have a detent portion adjacent one end, spaced from the point of rotational mounting, which portion is adapted to lockingly engage a respective latch pin so as to hold the seat assembly in a selected one of said operative configuration. Rotational control means for rotating the locking arms into and out of locking engagement are also provided. |
