PURPOSE:To obtain a sliding material consisting of fiber reinforced synthetic resin with excellent abrasion resistance by mixing carbon fibers by vapor growth having a specific value in its surface distance, aspect ratio and diameter and/or graphite whiskers having specific surface distances which are obtained by heat- treating the carbon fibers by vapor growth, and resin. CONSTITUTION:A sliding material is made of carbon fibers by vapor growth having 3.47 - 3.43 in its surface distances d (Angstrom ), 50 - 500 in aspect ratio, and 5mum or less in its diameter, and/or, mixture of graphite whiskers having 3.43 - 3.35 in its surface distances d (Angstrom ) which are obtained by heat-treating the carbon fiber by vapor growth, and resin. In particular, as carbon fibers by vapor growth it contains ones manufactured by a fluidized vapor growth method. It preferably contains still further carbonaceous granular crystal. The carbon fibers by vapor growth manufactured by a fluidized vapor growth method are formed having round end parts, and when the carbon fibers by vapor growth are filled in a matrix, the occurrence of micro-cracks and the like become less, and thus it may be a sliding material having excellent abrasion resistance. |
