Inexpensive lubricating oil antioxidants having a solubilizing group which comprises alkyl and cycloalkylsubstituted aromatics and a reducing thiophenyl group, which are useful motor oil additives. Method of reducing coking tendencies of lubricating oils by incorporating the substituted aromatic antioxidants.
