The parachute has its lower third (1) constructed as a conventional parachute, but with a reinforced upper edge (2). The upper part of the parachute is formed from triangular segments (3), with the base of each segment (3) sewn to the lower part of the parachute, whilst the sides of each segment remain open. The apex of each segment is attached to a central cord (4), which is attached to the load by a tensile spring (5). When the parachute is released at high speed the segments swing open to reduce the initial decelerating force on the parachute. USE/ADVANTAGE - For load drops and rescue work with automatic aerodynamic force adjustment.
