Optical coupling device for two fibres - inserts pointed end of one fibre into uncoated side of other to form T=shape

Two multimode fibrese (1,2) to be coupled together are arranged perpendicular to each other in a T shape. The beam emitting surface (22) of the fibre (2) which fits into the other fibre (1) is cut into a point so that the beams emitted from the sloped sides of the point form an angle of 60 deg. to 80 deg. with the axis of the fibre (2). The coating (11) of the fibre (1) which forms to bar of the T shape is removed in the area where the pointed beam emitting surface (22) of the other fibre (2) is inserted. An optical medium (4) is attached to the fibre (1) in the region where the coating (11) has been removed, such that a thinner air gap is formed between the beam emitting surface (22) and the optical medium (4). USE/ADVANTAGE - Makes bidirectional optical information exchange possible and improves the optical coupling between the fibres in a simple way.
