A platform 18, rotatably mounted about a vertical axis 30 on the chassis of an endless track vehicle, is provided with a cab 20, timber supports 106 and luffing booms 34 supporting a fork and clamp device. Each boom consists of articulated sections 36, 38 and pivotally supports a curved fork member 68 on which clamp arms 94 are pivotally supported. In addition to boom-luffing rams (not shown), rams 52, 78, 98 are provided between the boom sections 36, 38, the boom sections 38 and the fork member, and the fork member and clamp arms, respectively. In operation, with the platform and fork member in the position shown, the vehicle is driven to engage the fork member beneath a transverse stack of timber. After operation of the clamp arms, the boom is folded to bring the timber over the supports 106, Fig. 2 (not shown). The platform is then rotated through 90 degrees so that the timber extends longitudinally of the vehicle to facilitate transportation.</p> |
