The invention relates to a process for liquefying mixtures of organic substances, in particular in the manufacture of perfumes, by exposing them to a microwave field of predetermined rated frequency, at least one component of the mixture being absorbent when introduced as well as in a predetermined temperature range and in the range of the rated microwave frequency. The process permits sufficiently uniform and hence decomposition-free heat treatment, in particular liquefaction, of mixtures of sensitive organic substances. To this end, the mixtures are exposed to the microwaves in a resonance chamber which is reflectively limited on essentially all sides and in which the microwaves undergo mode and frequency splitting. The principal dimensions (x, y, z) of the resonance chamber are not less than approximately eight times the free space wavelength of the microwave field at the rated frequency.
