The thrust bearing with shoes (18) between an annular slide surface (6, 8) axially opposite which is a support surface (24) formed by the end of a piston. The piston end facing away from it contains an oil pressure compartment. The piston moves axially in the cylinder (34) as a result of the difference in pressure between the shoe (18) of this piston (28) and the oil-pressure in the oil-pressure chamber (32) in a cylinder (34). Each piston (28) for each shoe (18) and its externally threaded (36) cylinder (34) form a unit (16), with the cylinder (34) screwing into a threaded hole (38) in a support (14). USE/ADVANTAGE - The pressure between the shoes can be balanced out, and the axial thrust measured for all the shoes together or singly and axial thrust oscillations prevented.
