The socket is assembled from two endpieces (134) of substantially triangular section and pref. one intermediate piece (135) sandwiched between them. It is held together by hooks (140,141) at the ends of each diagonal edge engaging in notches (142,143) in corresp. edges of the intermediate piece(s). Boundary and overlap regions of the endpieces (134) and intermediate piece (135) have thinner walls which when fitted together amt. to the full thickness of the base. Length is variable in steps by addn. of intermediate pieces. ADVANTAGE - Mfr. of double sockets of different dimensions (esp. lengths) is simplified with lower costs of tooling.
