Mains supply section for superconductive magnet of NMR tomograph - has gradient amplifier regulated to deliver desired current

The supply section has at least one gradient amplifier (GX-GZ) which is provided to supply the gradient coils of the n,m,r, tomograph. The amplifier output is fed to a transformer (TX-TZ) and a smoothing filter (L,C). The amplifier is regulated so that it delivers an a.c. voltage. The latter is pref. markedly higher in frequency than that of the mains. Pref., three amplifiers are used and regulated to supply a three-phase current system. The output voltages of the separate amplifiers are combined via a three-phase bridge rectifier (B). ADVANTAGE - Simplified construction.
