The method projects light (26) from a source (21) onto the object (11) and directs light scattered by the object to a sensor whose electrical measurement signal is evaluated, e.g. by a computer. The relevant part of the object is scanned by the light beam. Parts for scanning are selected from which variations in shape or size are anticipated. USE/ADVANTAGE - for testing, measuring or identifying measurement objects, esp. workpieces such as cylinder heads with or without valves installed. Enables measurements to be made more rapdily than with previous methods.
