PURPOSE:To obtain a therapeutic agent for hepatopathy which markedly reduces GOT, GPT and LDH activity and has marked repressing effect against hepatic disorders by using a specific saponin as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:The subject therapeutic agent against hepatopathy contains as an active ingredient, a saponin of formula I (Ara is alpha-L-arabinose: Rha is alpha-L-rhamnopyranose; Glc is delta-glucopyranose) or of formula II. These compounds are obtained by crashing leaves of TARA tree (Aralia elata SEEM), extracting them with methanol, suspending the extract in water, fractionating the suspension with chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol in order, concentrating the n-butanol fraction, subjecting the concentrate to column chromatography to elute with water methanol, fractionating the methanol fraction through silica- gel chromatography and purifying the fraction. The dose is 10 to 500 mg/day/kg in case of oral administration or 5 to 500mg/day/kg in parenteral administration. |
