摘要 Compositions for cleaning matal surfaces and/or for protecting metal surfaces against corrosion comprise: (a) 15-50 weight per cent of a hydrocarbon solvent having a boiling point or range in the range 60-260 DEG C., e.g. ligroin or Stoddard solvent; (b) 10-50 weight per cent of water; (c) 6-20 weight per cent of a sodium, potassium, lithium, ammonium, alkyl ammonium or alkanol ammonium petroleum or alkaryl sulphonate, the sulphonic acid portion of which has a mean M.W. of 400-540, optionally dissolved in a mineral lubricating oil; and (d) 1-20 weight per cent of either an ester of a C1- 16 monohydric alcohol with a C2- 18 monocarboxylic acid or a diester of a C1- 16 monohydric alcohol with a C4- 10 dicarboxylic acid. The composition may contain two different sulphonates (c) having a M.W. difference of at least 15. The following optional components are mentioned: (e) 0.1-6 weight per cent of a salt formed between an alkanolamine or an O-alkyl-alkanolamine and an acid of formula Phenyl-R-COOH where R is absent or is a C1- 3 straight chain hydrocarbon group; (f) 0.1-6 weight per cent of a non-ionic emulsifier comprising an ester of oleic or ricinoleic acid with an ethylene oxide adduct of a glycol or hexitol, the hydrophobic part of the emulsifier having a M.W. of 200-1400; (g) up to 20 weight per cent of di- or triethylene glycol; (h) up to 10 weight per cent of a C1- 4 alcohol, a C2- 6 alkane diol, or a monoether of a C2- 6 alkane diol; and (i) up to 3 weight per cent of a cyclic diether, e.g. dioxane. The compositions may be applied to metal surfaces by spraying, dipping or painting. Examples illustrate the surface protection of carbon steel rods and plates, and the compositions are stated to be particularly useful for cleaning and/or protecting firearms.
