Aqueous hair dyeing compositions comprise a tinctorially effective amount of a dyestuff and 0.5-10% by weight of formamide of formula H-#OC-NR 1 R 2 in which R, and R 2 are lower (C 1-6 ) alkyl, lower alkenyl, or (C 3-6 ) cycloalkyl, or hydroxy substituted lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or cycloalkyl R 1 may also be hydrogen, provided R 1 and R 2 are not both methyl groups. Disperse, nitro, neutral dyeing metal complex azo dyes and fast to milling acid dyes may be used, thickeners, gums, detergents, perfumes and surfactants may also be present. Dyeing is preferably at 20-25‹C at pH 3.5-6. |
