Cross-linking is carried out by using a peroxyphthalide of formula: (where R is a phenyl residue, opt. substd. by alkyl or halogen or an alkyl residue, and R' is a t-alkyl residue) as radical-formers in the cross-linking or vulcanisation of thermoplastic macromolecular compounds. Olefine (co)polymers, silicones, diene copolymers and natural rubber can be cross-linked or vulcanised in this way. The peroxyphthalides are stable on heating, are non-volatile, do not explode, and give vulcanisates with no odour. |
