The dispersion of chlorosulphonic acid, a chemical compound used for military purposes as a smoke-forming agent, is effected by introducing the said substance under a head of water, through special nozzles and in the presence of a turbine stirrer of the radial paddle type. The hydrolysis reaction which takes place is extremely exothermic and violent and the considerable quantity of heat which derives from the hydration is partly exchanged with a cooling coil of appropriate geometry and section and partly absorbed by the mass of excess water. The devices adopted hence impede the formation of smokes and the release of toxic substances, whether liquid or gaseous, thus guaranteeing the safety of the personnel employed in the work and the safeguarding of the environment. <IMAGE> |
