PURPOSE: To improve the reliability by periodically measuring an environment- dependent parameter to correct an incorporated program and dynamically calculating and deciding a reception range at the time of using the device to properly operate the device in a wide range of environmental conditions. CONSTITUTION: A coin classification detector 12 counts the number of high frequency pulses for the absence of coins and that for the existence of nearby coins. Since the frequency of each detector 12 is reduced at a rate corresponding to a specific coin by the rise of temperature, the reception range of each coin classification is calculated and decided based on the counted value of the detector 12 by an incorporated algorithm of a processor 250. The reception range of coins is not fixed but is dynamically decided at the time of the use in accordance with a temperature/frequency relation or the like preliminarily decided for the constitution of a specific device. Thus, the device is appropriately operated in a wide range of environmental conditions, and the reliability is improved.
