PURPOSE:To obtain a compact optical coupling system by providing a total reflecting mirror which changes the direction of a light signal outputted by a light emitting element by 90 deg. before the light signal is made incident on an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:An LED chip 2 loaded on a substrate 1 has a ball lens 4 on t its light emission part and the total reflecting mirror 6 which reflects the light signal, which is made incident from below, to a horizontal direction is arranged above the ball lens. This total reflecting mirror 6 is constituted actually of a prism, a condenser lens 5 is mounted on its projection-side flank, and the incidence end part of the optical fiber 3 is loaded beside the lens 5. Then the light signal outputted by the LED chip 2 is propagated upward as a parallel light beam by the ball lens 4 and made incident on the total reflecting mirror 6, and the light signal which is changed in its propagation direction by 90 deg. through the total reflecting mirror 6 is converged by the condenser lens 5 and entered into the incidence end part of the optical fiber 3. Consequently, the more compact optical coupling system is obtained without making the mounting process of the light emitting element complicate. |
