The fixing unit (33), operable in a predetermined drive voltage range, in removably mountable on a part or the housing of the imaging appts.. A unit delivers an output voltage to the fixing unit. Another unit detects or describes the operating voltage of the fixing unit fitted. A control circuit (133) ascertains of the delivered output voltage lies within the designated voltage range. A further unit allows the delivered output voltage to pass to the fixing unit if it does lie within the drive voltage range. A display shows the result, i.e. if the output voltage is within or outside the drive range. The fixing unit has a working life monitoring and fuse unit (174,175,176). The condition of the latter is indicated when the mains switch is switched on. ADVANTAGE - Avoids interference or failure if range of working voltage in relation to input a.c. voltage is falsely set.
