<p>A railway car (10) heated by system through a heat exchanger (28) located at the bottom (18) of a tank (14). The heat exchanger (28) comprises pipes (53, 58, 59, 60, 61, 67, 68) running lengthwise of the car (10). Bypasses (72, 74) are provided to discharge condensate formed in the pipes between their ends to drain hot condensate into a cavity of a torus (26) sleeved about a discharge valve (114) in effective heat transfer thereto. The torus (26) includes a top wall (82) being recessed at its opposite ends to form pockets (85, 86) so as to reduce the intermediate cross-sectional area of the torus (26) for damping frothing of the condensate discharge into the torus (26) and promoting laminar flow of the condensate through the torus (26).</p> |
