<p>A flashing feed inlet (1) is used in a distillation column (3), to decrease the amount of liquid entrainment and maldistribution of vapor occurring in the column (3). The inlet (1) comprises: a) a feed pipe (5) containing at least one side opening (9) cut an angle α of not greater than about 30° below or above the horizontal axis and at least one opening (13) in the bottom of the feed pipe (5), and b) a flashing chamber (7), connected to, spaced from and surrounding the feed pipe (5), having a sufficient cross-sectional area to decrease the linear velocity of a vapor, produced by flashing of at least a portion of the feed stream in flashing feed inlet (1), to substantially that of the superficial vapor velocity within the column (3), the flashing chamber (7) additionally providing a surface (10) for the feed stream to strike.</p> |
