The method (1) enables the high strength reinforcing filaments (5) to be conveniently aligned by air assisted means and parted to length by a high speed circular saw. Preparation of the optical core (2) coating (3) plastic sheath (4) and outer insulation (6) is first of all carried out by conventional stripping tools. The cable is then held by fixture (7) and the reinforcing filaments (5) dispersed by air jet (8), drawn through a suction orifice (10), held by clamps (11) and finally cut to length by saw (12,13). USE/ADVANTAGE - Is suitable for large batch cable preparation. Eliminates onerous hand shearing methods previously used for parting tough reinforcing filamenbts. Is suitable for any cable with tough reinforcing material.
