A balance for an articulated manipulator whose arm is located in a basic unit and is driven by a motor to swing about a horizontal axis. A piston and cylinder arrangement (6, 7) provides constant pressure. The arm (3) has a contact (8a) outside the joint axis (2), and is driven by a cog (13) and an orbiting wheel (10). Outside its centre is a connection (8) for the piston rod (7). USE/ADVANTAGE - In every position of the robot arm the correct balance is achieved.
