An electric remote control device (20) comprises a body (25) containing pairs of sliding pushers (27) actuated by a member (22), each pusher having means (31 to 33) for generating an electric signal representative of the movement and/or position of the pusher, and means for processing the signals from the generating means. The end of each pushers (27) passes through the base (27) of the body (25) to the generating means which may comprise a plate (31) attached to the pusher and movable between an IR transmitter (32) and detector (33). A printed circuit board (40) supporting the signal generating and processing means is disposed perpendicularly to the base (35) between the pushers (27). Supports (39) made from heat conducting material support the printed circuit boards (40) and are in heat conducting contact with electric components thereof. The base (35) receives a protective casing (34) of the same shape and dimensions as a known fluid operated remote control device of the manipulator type.
