The multi-cylinder petrol injection engine according to the invention comprises, for each of its cylinders: a cylinder head (1) forming a cover above the cylinder and comprising a cavity (6) which forms the combustion chamber and is connected to the space (10) formed between the upper face (3a) of the piston (3) and the cylinder head (1); two air intake valves (4a, 4b) and an exhaust valve (5) which is fitted parallel to the axis of the cylinder; a spark plug (8) and an injector (7) opening out into the combustion chamber. The assembly formed by the intake and exhaust valves, the combustion chamber, the plug and the injector is arranged in such a way that when the piston of the cylinder performs an upward movement, the air or the air/petrol mixture is driven towards the combustion chamber, creating minute swirling which promotes combustion of the mixture.
