PURPOSE:To perform economical treatment of industrial waste, etc., without causing environmental pollution by culturing a specific thermophilic microbial strain at a high temperature in a bouillon medium containing organic substance. CONSTITUTION:A metallic container 1 is covered with a heat-insulator 5 such as glass wool and wound with a heating element. A glass bottle 2 filled with a lignin-dissolving organic substance to be decomposed (e.g. nylon or other plastics) and bouillon 3 is placed in the metallic container 1 and hot water 4 is poured into the space between the bottle and the container to form a water- bath thermostat. A thermophilic strain separated from an organic material existing in natural environment or produced by artificial means is inoculated to the bottle 2. The strain is a gram-positive non-acid-fast brevibacillus free from pathogenicity to human body. The strain is cultured for >=10 days in the medium controlled to >=75 deg.C by a temperature-controlling power source 7. After the completion of culture, the organic substance is separated from the cultured product and the weight of the substance measured after the cultivation is compared with the original weight to determine the decomposed amount of the organic material such as plastics. |
