PURPOSE:To automatically correct the characteristic change of a sensor array, etc., by individually changing the reference voltage of a pulse height discriminator corresponding to a pulse counter circuit and repeating such an action until the variance of a counted value becomes smaller than a specified value. CONSTITUTION:After a pulse outputted from the sensor array 101 is amplified 102, it is supplied to the pulse height discriminators 103 and 104. Meanwhile output voltage from D/A converters 107 and 108 impressed on the discriminators 103 and 104 is the analog value of a value set in registers 105 and 106 by a processor 113. The discriminators 103 and 104 respectively output only the pulse larger than the output from the converters 107 and 108 out of the pulses from a pulse amplifier 102 and pulse counters 109 and 110 respectively count the pulses from the discriminators 103 and 104 in a period that is specified by the processor 113, then the respective counted values are held in latch circuits 111 and 112 to be read in the processor 113. The processor 113 changes the reference voltage of the discriminators 103 and 104 so that the variance of the counted value of the counters 109 and 110 may be smaller than the specified value.
