PURPOSE:To make compact and simple the structure of a brake for the moving member of a copying machine or the like, by providing a backward motion member in a position to stop the moving member and by applying the backward movement of the backward motion member to compress a contractible fluid. CONSTITUTION:A piston 8 and a columnar hollow hermetic member 7 hermetically filled with a compressible fluid 6 are provided in the cylinder casing 5 of a brake A. A rod 9 extends outwards through a lid 10. When an optical scanner 1 performs inertial movement toward the end of its backward motion after the forward driving (a) of the scanner is ceased, the scanner collides against the end face of the rod 9 so that a backward moving force acts to the rod. The hermetic member 7 is then pushed on the inside 51 of a rear plate and compressed in the direction of the length L and simultaneously expanded and deformed because of a margin opening S so that the scanner 1 is slowly braked. After that, the hertmetic member 7 and the fluid 6 filled therein are compressed so that the scanner 1 is much braked. |
