摘要 Optical images are formed using an aperture (5) in the focal plane on the image side of an imaging system. The aperture is dimensioned to not limit the max. possible image side aperture for the max. finite object width. The aperture produces a scattered light distribution from whose geometric extent in the plane of observation the object width of a bright object (1) is determined. The light power in the scattering distribution, less than in a residual area, is constant. USE/ADVANTAGE - The distances of object points to a reference plane are measured, e.g. for use in automation of visual testing, or automatic vehicle navigation.
