A method of evaluating binary CCD line signals involves differentiating the video signals (1.1.1, 1.2.1) fed into the two input channels of a differentiation arrangement. The signals are then tempararily stored (2) and decoded (3). Status signals (3.1, 3.2) and position information about the shadow edges are fed to a measurement value unit.
