[Also in Divisions B1-2, E1-2 and F1] An aquarium filter comprises one or more inverted trays 15, with slotted tops 16 and peripheral walls 17-(20), whose lower edges rest on the floor 21 of the aquarium tank, water filtering downwards through a covering layer of gravel 23, through top(s) 16 and into one or more air-lift pumps 52 which return it to the top of the tank. Peripheral walls 17, 18 have apertured projections of dovetail section 27, 28, 29, and walls 19, (20) have apertured recesses of dovetail section 31, 32, 33, so that a number of trays can be demountably connected together. The apertures in the projections and recesses that enable water to flow freely from the space under one tray to another, while suitable male and female caps 43, 44 close the outer apertures of the assembly of trays (Figs. 2 to 7, not shown). The pump 52 (Figs. 8 to 11, not shown) has a base portion 56 with a dovetail projection (64) which fits into one of the recesses 31, 32 or 33. Tops 16 are reinforced by upstanding ribs, parallel to and between adjacent slots. Any number of trays 15 may be fitted together, to form a filter of any required size. |
