1,140,787. Refrigerating. R. MAYER and F. VON VEH. 5 July, 1967 [5 July, 1966], No. 30887/67. Heading F4H. A cooling element comprises a closable container containing a salt or salt mixture, which absorbs heat of solution when mixed with water, and a substance such as methyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, polyacrylic acid or a polymeric alkali silicate in a concentration which renders the contents of the container, when water has been added, sufficiently viscous to prevent leakage from the container. Said substance may be provided as a solid insert, lining or coating in the container and the water may be contained in a separate bag within the container. In one example, 75g ammonium chloride, 75g urea and 6À5g methyl cellulose are provided in a plastics bag to which 300 c.c. of water are added when cooling is required. In a further example the bag contains 100g ammonium thiocyanate and 8g high-polymer carboxymethyl cellulose and 200 c.c. water are added. The container may be formed of paper. |
