Internal bleed in multichamber heavy liq separator

Into a pref. rectangular section tank, a mixt. of heavy and light liqs. (esp. water and petrol/oil) is fed to a first coarse sludge sepn. chamber (5) sepd. by an overflow partition (10) from a fine sludge collector chamber (4), in turn sepd. from a main sepn. chamber (3). Sinking water leaves the separator via the gaps between pairs of downwardly sloping plates (11) near the separator floor, and thence to a water outlet (6) near the tank end. Oil from the surface zone descends a vertical pipe (12) before rising to an outlet 813) and a storage chamber (19). To allow for differences in water level during rest periods which could prejudice internal media transfer on restarting, a small aperture (17) between the base of the water outlet (6) and the upper edge of the vertical oil pipe (12) is provided to permit removal of all the oil collected in a equalisation chamber (18).
