Agent for producing a coloured mark in dentistry consists of a coloured pigment powder (I) with a particle size of 1-20 microns and a carrier liq. (II) which evaporates more quickly than water at room temp. (I) is insol. in (II) and forms a suspension, leaving a powder residue, which can be wiped off, when (II) evaporates. It is claimed for marking on unsatisfactory contacts on occlusion areas of a dental prosthesis and a positive model of a bite prepd. for a dental prosthesis and/or on the chewing surfaces of teeth. (I) has a particle size of 3-10 microns and m.pt. of min. 150, pref. mi. 300 deg C and b.pt. of under 900, pref. under 700 deg C; or sublimation temp. of 200-900, pref. 300-700 deg C at atmos. pressure. The (I) particles are wetted by (II). (I) is insol. in water and had a density of min. 6, pref. min. 8 g/cc. It is non-flammable in all stage of aggregation. (I) pref. consists of red HgS. (II) consists mainly of a readily volatile alcohol, pref. an aq. alcohol soln., esp. a mixt. of 60-96% EtOH or i-PrOH and 40-4% water. ADVANTAGE - The technique is simple, cheap and effective.
