Road making asphalt prepn. - using refuse hydrolysis residue as admixture and gas as fuel

An asphalt mix for road making is composed of chippings, sand, filler and heated bitumen as binder. The mineral component can be increased by adding the residue from a refuse incinerator. Carbonaceous residue from the latter or low-temp. carbonisation gas produced can be used as fuel for the asphalt prodn. Refuse (M) is passed through a disintegrator (5) and pyrolytical reactor (6) from which pyrolysis residue (PR) and low-temp. carbonisation gas (SG) are passed to a combustion chamber (7). The produced flue gases (RGM) are stripped of the waste heat (8) and cleaned (9). A screen (12) with 3-5 mm mesh produces coarse (PRG) and fine (PRF) residues which are dried in a dryer (2) by a burner (2a), togther with chippings (SP), sand (S) and filler (F). The mixer (1) yields asphalt (A) and flue gases (RG) after addn. of bitumen (B) and asphalt granules (AG). Fused granules (SCH) are produced from the slag of (7) in a water bath (14). ADVANTAGE - This saves both raw materials and energy for heating.
