1278580 Antimalarials BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 26 Nov 1969 [20 Dec 1968] 60848/68 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Therapeutic compositions for oral, parenteral or rectal administration comprise compounds of formula: and their acid addition salts, wherein Ar is an aryl ring system substituted by either at least 1 halogen atom and at least 1 C 1-24 alkoxy group, or at least 1 C 1-6 haloalkyl group, R 1 is H or C 1-4 alkyl and R 2 is C 1-4 alkyl, or R 1 -C-R 2 forms a C 5-7 spiroalkane ring, possibly C 1-4 alkyl-substituted. These compounds are active against bacteria, parasites including the plosmodia of malaria, fungi including dermatophytes and candida. For the treatment or prevention of malaria, the compositions may contain other antimalarials such as the sulphonamides.
