Central measurement and control of temp. where the tolerances are not strict, are effected by connecting a large number of heating circuits with differing thermal requirements to a single unit of measurement and control, each being connected in turn by a step-wise mechanism and a commutator to a thermocouple so that temp. can be read from a meter and compared with the required temp. Relays of heating are closed if temp. is too low and open if too high. An alarm is set off if the limits of adjustable temp. are exceeded.
