<p>The invention provides compounds of the formula (I): <CHEM> in which: R1, R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl, halogen or C1-6 alkoxy; R5 is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl; Y is oxygen or sulfur; Z is 1-10 carbon straight or branched alkyl or 2-10 carbon straight or branched unsaturated alkyl; n is 0-5; and A is H, -COOH or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, ester or amide thereof, -CH2OH or an ether or ester derivative, or -CHO or an acetal derivative, or -COR6 or a ketal derivative where R6 is -(CH2)mCH3 where m is 0-4. Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds and methods for their preparation. The compounds are useful in treating diseases affected by retinoids, for example dermatoses such as psoriasis.</p> |
