摘要 PURPOSE: To provide an electric discharge element having an electron generation source enabling electrons in a cavity to be carried by having a cathode with an electron generating surface, and making the cathode cooperate with a vacuum electron duct defined by the walls of an electrically insulating material having a secondary emission coefficient. CONSTITUTION: An electric discharge element has a cathode 2 having an electron generating surface, the cathode 2 cooperates with a vacuum electron duct formed by a cavity 10 defined by the walls 7 to 9 of an electrically insulating material having a secondary emission coefficientδ, the cavity 10 has an output port 11, and an electrode means which can be connected to a voltage source provides an electric field of field intensity E to a path within the cavity 10 from the cathode 2 to the output port 11 during operation.δand E take respective values enabling electrons to be carried in the cavity 10. When an electric field with sufficient strength is given in the longitudinal direction of the cavity 10, electrons can be carried into the cavity defined by the walls of the electrically insulating material. The strength of the electric field depends on the kind of material and on the geometry and size of the walls of the cavity.
