The improved silver halide emulsion has a silver iodide content of 10 - 45 mol%, is monodisperse and is chiefly comprised of twinned crystals. It is a high-speed, high AgI content silver halide emulsion that is comprised of grains of a uniform shape and size and which is suitable for use in the production of core/shell type emulsions or epitaxially grown emulsions.
